MFOUR PROFILE

MFour Profile: Holly Freeman, Accounting

As part of our Admin team, Holly manages the day-to-day accounting functions of the company and supports other departments with any administrative needs. Outside of work, she enjoys reading DC comics, running marathons, writing, and going to Disney Parks!

How would you describe what you do at MFour?

If someone asked me, I would jokingly say I’m a “theoretical bean counter” because I am responsible for making sure that revenue is recorded accurately every single month. I oversee billing and ensure proper documentation is in place for the money we make and the money that we spend. I also get everyone paid which is the most important thing isn’t it?

How has your role changed since joining MFour?

In some ways not at all and in other ways so many! I started at MFour three years ago as an accounting associate and have learned and grown so much here. When I started my job was largely data entry, but I love what I do and I’m passionate about it. As time has gone on and I’ve learned about how the business works and what challenges we face from an accounting perspective I’ve been gifted the opportunity to take ownership of processes, look at things critically, and start to realize where we can make improvements.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I’m an extroverted introvert so this role is the perfect place for me. I get to collaborate and work with other departments which is exciting for me to have an ‘internal’ role that still involves communication and problem-solving. I’m also incredibly geeky about numbers and policies and get a sense of satisfaction when everything is organized.

What are a few tips for people applying for or interviewing at MFour?

Know who MFour is, and what we do, and come in ready to get your hands dirty. We are a dynamic environment, and we really are a group of talented people who are ready to dive in and make things happen. I have learned so much from so many of the great people I’m surrounded by at this company and it’s that desire to learn and improve that drives us.

Who are your most influential role models?

Is it cheesy to say, my big sister? She’s the reason I got into accounting. She paved the way for my future! I also really admire Amanda Knox. Perhaps controversial but she’s a very strong example of someone who has made the most out of a dismal situation. The way she has transformed her trauma and dealt with an outrageous amount of public backlash is kind of amazing. She has a podcast about life’s twists and turns that I strongly recommend!

What’s your best piece of career advice?

Be curious! Don’t be afraid to ask questions! Don’t be afraid of being wrong and admitting it. Keep an open mind because we really do learn from being wrong, from making mistakes, and from listening to others and learning to see different perspectives.

What do you love most about working for MFour?

I love the flexibility and the way that the company has adapted our culture over the past few years. I have an incredibly busy life with two teenagers at home and a non-traditional LGBTQ+ blended family. MFour has allowed me to nurture this environment while succeeding and thriving at my job and I appreciate that.
